Best Diving Destinations from Brussels
When you live in Brussels, scuba diving might not be the first thing on your mind. And yet, a few hours on a plane is all it takes to find yourself in crystal-clear waters with jaw-dropping visibility. Here are the three destinations where I take my students , and why they are ideal for learning or leveling up.
Why choose Tenerife for diving from Brussels?
Tenerife is probably the most reliable diving destination in Europe. Why? Because conditions are good 365 days a year. The water sits at 19 degrees in winter and climbs to 24 in summer. Visibility regularly exceeds 30 metres. And there is everything: volcanic reefs, wrecks, rays, turtles, and even barracuda schools.
It is also very affordable from Belgium. Direct flights from Brussels take around 4 hours 30 minutes, and you can regularly find decent fares, especially in low season. Accommodation is reasonable too.
Must-dive sites
- El Puertito , Calm, shallow water, ideal for beginners. Green sea turtles are regular visitors.
- Los Gigantes , Impressive volcanic walls, eagle rays, and pelagics.
- El Poris , Underwater caves and tunnels in a spectacular setting.
Who is it for?
Everyone. Beginners and experienced divers alike. It is the ideal destination for an Open Water or Advanced course, but also for fun dives among certified divers. The variety of sites means there is something for every level.
Can you dive in Malaga from Brussels?
Malaga is the perfect compromise between proximity and dive quality. Under 3 hours flying from Brussels, you are on the Costa del Sol with a Mediterranean Sea that has some great surprises in store. The waters are slightly cooler than the Canaries, but from May to October it is very pleasant.
The region is known for its wrecks , notably the Boreas, a trawler deliberately sunk to create an artificial reef. The marine life is typically Mediterranean: moray eels, octopus, nudibranchs, and schools of bream and dentex. When conditions are right, visibility can reach 20 metres.
Must-dive sites
- La Arana , Natural reefs and exceptional macro life. Nudibranchs and seahorses if you know where to look.
- Nerja / Maro , Underwater caves and walls within the Cerro Gordo nature reserve.
- Boreas wreck , Trawler at 22 metres, ideal for Advanced divers.
Who is it for?
Those who want a long weekend or a short trip without going too far. Malaga is perfect for a 5-7 day trip combining diving and cultural discovery.
Is Greece a good diving destination?
Greece is the destination that surprises everyone. People think of the food, the temples, the paradise islands , but rarely the diving. And yet, Greek waters are among the clearest in the Mediterranean, with visibility that can exceed 30 metres in summer.
The Greek archipelago offers incredible site diversity: underwater caves, ancient and modern wrecks, vertiginous drop-offs, and varied marine life from groupers to loggerhead turtles. Each island has its own underwater personality.
Must-dive sites
- Crete , The island that has it all: caves, walls, wrecks, and rich marine life. Diveable from May to November.
- Cyclades (Naxos, Paros) , Turquoise waters, volcanic rock tunnels, and exceptional visibility.
- Saronic Islands , Close to Athens, ideal for combining culture and diving.
Who is it for?
Those who want to combine a classic holiday with diving. Greece is perfect for couples or mixed groups (divers and non-divers) who want to enjoy both above and below the surface.
Which destination should you choose?
In a nutshell:
- Tenerife if you want year-round reliability and ideal conditions for learning
- Malaga if you are looking for a short, close, and accessible trip
- Greece if you want to combine diving and sun holidays with friends or family
In all three cases, I know the sites, the partner dive centres, and the local tips. My dive trips are all-inclusive: courses, accommodation, logistics. All you need is your flight and your swimsuit.
