PADI certified instructor #566981 with 16+ technical specialties, sharing the passion for diving year-round in the Canary Islands. Courses, guided dives, gear advice, and, as an option, full trips from Brussels.
You should be comfortable in water, but you don't need to be a competitive swimmer. For PADI Open Water Diver certification, you need to be able to swim 200 metres (no time limit, any stroke) and float for 10 minutes. These are comfort criteria, not performance tests. A Discover Scuba Diving experience requires no swimming test at all , everything happens under the direct supervision of Lau, PADI certified instructor #566981. Most of our students aren't strong swimmers , they're simply curious about the underwater world. If you're unsure about your comfort in water, get in touch before booking and we'll talk it through together.
What's the minimum age for diving?
The minimum age for PADI Open Water Diver certification is 10 years old. Children aged 10 to 14 receive the Junior Open Water Diver rating, which limits depth to 12 metres (instead of 18m for adults) and requires diving with a certified adult. Discover Scuba Diving experiences are available from age 8, letting younger children breathe underwater in a pool or shallow confined water under direct instructor supervision. There is no maximum age for learning to dive , the only requirement is a medical fitness-to-dive clearance from your doctor. PADI has certified over 29 million divers worldwide since 1966, across all ages and fitness levels.
Is equipment provided?
For our all-inclusive diving packages, all scuba equipment is provided: wetsuit suited to the water temperature, mask, fins, regulator, buoyancy control device (BCD), tank and weights. All you need is your swimsuit and a towel. For individual PADI courses (Open Water, Advanced, Rescue, Divemaster), some equipment is partially included , rental for the rest can be arranged and we'll discuss it based on your situation and destination. If you already own your own gear, you're welcome to bring it. Lau can also advise on purchasing equipment if you're looking to invest in your own diving gear.
When is the best time to dive?
The best time depends on your destination. In Tenerife and the Canary Islands, diving is possible year-round thanks to water temperatures between 18°C in winter and 24°C in summer, with visibility often exceeding 20 metres. This is one of the great advantages of the Canaries for scuba diving. In the Mediterranean (Malaga, Greece), the ideal season runs from May to October, with water at 22-26°C and particularly active marine life. In Belgium, quarries and lakes are diveable year-round in a dry suit, but visibility is best from October to March. Lau will advise you on the best window based on your level, preferences and chosen destination.
